Karina and Guillaume Lefevre met hiking across Corsica; now they are building a family and a domaine in the tiny village of Miramas in the heart of Provence. Here they are farming a bit less than 75 acres planted to traditional Provencal varietals, grown in a flaky limestone soil known as “Lauze” from which the winery takes its name. Their calling card is, not surprisingly, their rose, but the rose is well supported by a range of reds and whites, including this Charbonnieres Rouge. The wine is a blend of Grenache and Syrah, done in a two-step process of whole-cluster and a form of carbonic maceration, the Grenache matured in concrete with the Syrah being aged in neutral barrels. The result is a red more vibrant than rich, bursting with wild berry flavors, easy to drink and highly refreshing.
