Dating from 1898, and in the hands of the Brunier the entire time since then, Domaine du Vieux Telegraphe is arguably THE iconic property in Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Today the estate is run by brothers Daniel and Frederic Brunier who have not only significantly expanded the domaine’s holdings but have also taken their winemaking ventures into new territory by creating “Telegramme” as a second label for Vieux Telegraphe. The concept for “Telegramme” was born with the ill-fated 2002 vintage, when flooding around harvest time led the brothers to downgrade their prestigious “Le Crau” bottling; the resulting wine, dubbed “Telegramme,” saw significant success, prompting them to continue producing the wine using mostly grapes from their younger vines. A blend of Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre and Cinsault, this is a lively, spice-tinged wine with taut red currant and strawberry flavors; it shows appealing finesse and verve, with no rough edges, and finishes on a floral note with harmonious tannins.
