Founded by David Stare in 1972, Dry Creek Vineyard was the first new winery established in Dry Creek Valley after Prohibition. Now in the hands of the second generation, in the person of Dave’s daughter, Kim Stare Wallace, Dry Creek is one of the few remaining family-owned wineries in California. The winery’s 185 acres, all farmed sustainably, are planted primarily to Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Zinfandel. This Chenin Blanc, however, is produced from grapes sourced for vineyards in Clarksburg, in the Central Valley; it offers aromas of citrus zest and sliced apples, with good balance on the palate through crisp acidity and a medium body tempered by the slightest bit of residual sugar.
