Chateau Ducru Beaucaillou is one of the oldest estates in the Medoc, dating back to at least the start of the 13th Century. In 1941 it became the property of the Borie family, who already had extensive roots in the Bordeaux region, and remains in that family today, under the direction of Bruno Borie since 2003. Their vineyards are planted to a 70/30 mix of Cab and Merlot, the average age of the vines being 35 years (although some parcels date back to 1918), and some of their acreage is considered among the best terroirs in all of Bordeaux. Le Petit Ducru, considered the “third wine” of the estate, made its debut with the 2019 vintage. This 2020, from an excellent vintage, offers ripe black and red fruit flavors, velvety textures, and balanced acidity; it serves as an appropriate introduction to the Ducru house style, balancing complexity with more immediate drinkability.
