Fairvalley was founded in 1997 by the employees of Fairview Wine and Cheese Estate, with support from South Africa’s most awarded winemaker, Charles Back. There are 42 families who are the team behind the scenes of the Fairvalley Workers Association. 100% of profits from the sale of the wines go directly towards the Fairvalley Workers Association. In additional to developing housing for its members, the Association funds support for education including transportation to schools and college funds for the children of the families of its members. Winemaker Awie Adolf has led production here since the first Chenin Blanc was produced in 1998. His take on the country’s sgnature red grape, Pinotage (a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsault) is made from grapes largely sourced from vineyards grwn on the lower slopes of Paarl Moountain; medium-bodied, it features smoky notes, intense dark fruit aromas, with dark fruit and coffee on the finish.
