Wagram is in the Wachau, the most westerly of Austria's wine regions and arguably the most dynamic; here Josef Bauer and his wife Maria Anna cultivate several vineyards devoted to a dozen different grape varieties, most prominent among them Grüner Veltliner. The Bauers farm biodynamically and vinify this orange wine naturally. 80% of the wine spends five hours on the skins while the other 20% is fermented, crushed, and kept on skins in stainless steel for 30 days; the result is a highly aromatic Grüner, intensely flavored, with great texture and aromas and flavors of citrus and pineapple.
