Home base for Firriato is in the province of Trapani, on the northwestern coast of Sicily, where it was founded in the early 1980s by Salvatore and Vinzia Di Gaetano. Over succeeding decades the couple added to their original estates with the addition of Cavanera on Etna and Calimoni on the island of Favignana. Today Firriato is well established as one of the powerhouses of Sicilian winemaking, now under the direction of the second generation, daughter Irene Di Gaetano and her husband Federico Lombardo di Monte Iato. This Etna Bianco, from the Cavanera estate, is a 60/40 blend of Carricante and Catarratto; it has a powerful nose, with distinct floral notes of white peaches and pears, and is richly textured, with a persistent freshness and a lengthy finish.
