Grandson of a producer in Douro and holding a Ph.D in viticulture and oenology from Oregon University, Tiago Sampaio is one of the most brilliant winemakers and producers of the new generation in Portugal. Having returned to Portugal in 2007 to start his own project, Folias de Baco, with old vines belonging to his family, Tiago has since then focused in making organic viticulture and natural wines. This Uivo Curtido is a skin contact “pet-nat” (petillant naturel) wine, made entirely from Moscatel Galego grapes that have been partially destemmed, macerated four months in giant cement tanks where they begin to ferment spontaneously, then finish fermentation in a capped bottle. Fresh and unfiltered, juicy and fragrant, it hits the palate like peach iced tea and clocks in at only 10% alcohol.
