Some fifteen years ago Jenny Mosbacher and Jim Fischer, who describe themselves as “business- and life-partners,” made fifty cases of Pinot Noir as an “experiment.” The results of the experiment were so impressive that the two kept at it, and now their production is up to about 5,000 cases across eight core wines, with grapes sourced from vineyards throughout the Willamette Valley. And, while the two acknowledge that their scope has changed significantly over the years, they also maintain that their original goal remains the same: “to make vineyard-forward wines that honor the land and history of the place while remaining open to experimentation and fun.” Theirs is a very approachable Pinot, smooth and elegant, with the classic Oregon characteristics of ripe summer berries, wild mushrooms, and forest floor.
