Located in the eastern Loire, just south of Blois, the little-known appellations of Cheverny and Cour-Cheverny are a must for any fan of Loire wines, and the wines produced here by Francois Cazin are widely regarded as a benchmark for the region. Cazin hand-harvests his old vines at yields that are well below the average in any given year. His wines are fresh and floral, sleek and precise. This red is a blend largely of Pinot Noir and Gamay with a little Cot (Malbec) added in, done entirely in stainless steel; it is a delightful, easy-drinking red, rather reminiscent of a Beaujolais from a cooler year, fragrant, forward, and zippy.
