G.D. Vajra was founded in 1972 by husband and wife Aldo and Milena Vaira. When Aldo inherited almost 100 acres of vineyards in Vergne, the highest village in the commune of Barolo, he broke withfamily tradition and began producing wines under his own label. G.D. Vajra is entirely a family affair: the winery was named after Aldo's father, Giuseppe Domenico, and Aldo and Milena work with their daughter Francesca and sons, Giuseppe and Isidoro. Vajra's Barolo Albe wraps around the palate with gorgeous depth and richness. Deeply spiced notes lead to plum, black cherry, licorice, menthol, tar and licorice in a resonant, beautifully expressive Barolo loaded with near-term appeal. It is rich and incredibly inviting from the very first taste.
