The husband-and-wife winemaking team of Chris and Andrea Mullineux has, over the past nearly twenty years, won much praise and many honors, rising to the top ranks of South Africa’s wine stars. Starting with their namesake Swartland winery in 2007, then with their joint venture with Analjit Singh in Franschhoek in 2013, they are now also the powers behind the Great Heart Wine Company, a winery 100% owned and run by the employees of the couple’s other two operations and who who directly profit from the wine sales and see the shareholders involved in all the stages of the viticulture and winemaking. As with the Mullineuxs’ other ventures, Great Heart is committed to sustainable and ethical farming and preserving the natural environment and well-being of their communities. This Red Blend is a somewhat unusual combination of Syrah, Cabernet, and Tinta Barroca, sourced from four dry farmed bush vine (goblet) parcels in the Swartland, aged 16-40 years; it has lots of dark plummy fruit, a little spice and earthiness, all backed by smooth tannins.
