Founded in 1973 in the Alentejo region of Portugal, southeast of Lisbon, Esporao has since grown to become one of the most powerful and best-known wine groups in Portugal. Here they have planted some 1800 acres of vineyards, olive trees, and other crops, with the vineyards being home to some 40 different varietals. This red was the first wine made by Esporao in 1985. A blend of Alicante Bouschet, Trincadeira and Cabernet, all estate-grown, it is smooth and rich, powerful yet generous and rounded. With well-balanced tannins and black fruits, it is a warm, ripe wine that is ready to drink now.
