Based in the tiny village of Celles-sur-Ource, just to the south of Epernay, Jean Laurent represents the third generation of grower-producers in his family at this small estate. The estate comprises 35 acres of vineyard, mostly planted to Pinot Noir with some Chardonnay and Pinot Blanc. The vines average 25-30 years of age, with the oldest parcels planted more than sixty years ago. The label identified this as a “recoltant manipulant,” or “grower Champagne,” meaning Laurent makes Champagne only from grapes grown in his own vineyards. This bottling is 100% Pinot Noir, a rich, multi-layered Champagne with a refined texture, racy acidity, and a long, creamy finish.
