Jean-Luc Colombo’s dream of becoming a winemaker and viticulturist came to fruition in the early 1980s with the acquisition of his first vineyard, a granite hillside planted with old Syrah vines overlooking the village of Cornas. From there was born the first vintage of Cornas “Les Ruchets” (in 1987), which became the flagship cuvée of the domain. With long strides, their estate has grown in the northern Rhône and in Provence. Early on he gained a reputation for being the winemaking wizard of the Rhone, and he is still known for making wines that are original, memorable, and bursting with personality. "Les Collines de Laure" (The Hills of Laure) is a blend of grapes from northern Rhone appellations, with 80% coming from young vines of Cornas and the remainder from St Joseph and Crozes Hermitage. The wine is named after these hilly vineyard sites where Colombo’s daughter Laure played as a child. The wine is elegant and refined, with aromas and flavors of berries and spices and a perfectly balanced finish.
