Johan Vineyards was founded in 2004 by Norwegian-born Dag Johan Sundby; the 175-acre estate is located in in the Willamette Valley, in Rickreall, northwest of Salem and adjacent to the Van Duzen Corridor. Certified biodynamic, the vineyard is planted to fifteen different varieties including some rather unusual choices like Gruner Veltliner, Blaufrankisch, and Melon de Bourgogne, as well as the expected Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. Considered to be the bottling most representative of the growing year and the vineyards’ terroir, this “estate” Pinot is a harmonious blending of different lots, showing great varietal character, nuance, and complexity.
