The Kiwi Cuvee brand is the result of a collaboration between a New Zealand winemaker, Rhyan Wardman, and a French one, Guillaume Lachetau, working in the Loire Valley, where the wines are actually made. Fifteen years ago, when the Sauvignon Blanc debuted on the international market, the Australian press (and then the British, and then the Americans) made a major fuss over the name, but Time hailed it as “the next generation of French wines.” Years on all that dust has settled and it is rightly seen as a good white wine made in the Loire Valley by a good New Zealand winemaker. (The two internationalists have since expanded their offerings to include a Pinot Grigio, a Pinot Noir, and a Cab Franc rosé.) This is a crisp and vibrant Sauvignon Blanc, loaded with citrus and other tropical fruits, the essence of refreshing.
