The La Gerla property is situated at 320 metres above sea level, on the gentle slopes below Montalcino. Once the property of the Biondi Santi family, it was acquired in 1976 by the late Sergio Rossi, who restructured it with great care and attention to detail. It is today recognized as one of the great crus of the region. The estate, now run by vineyard manager/director Alberto Passeri and winemaker Vittorio Fiore, makes four wines, all made entirely from Sangiovese Grosso, the only grape planted on the property. This is a robust and precise Brunello with lush black cherry and black currant fruit accented by tobacco, earth, and mineral flavors; it is balanced and smooth now, with a long finish, and its great length presages a long bottle life. Drinking window: 2024-2038.
