Chateau Giscours was first written about in 1330, when it was listed in historical records as a fortified property; the first reference to Giscours as an official Bordeaux wine-producing vineyard dates back to 1552. For a period during the late 19th and early 20th centuries the estate belonged to the Cruse family of negociants. Following their sale of the property in 1913 the chateau went through a long rough patch. Its modern-day turnaround is credited to Alexander van Beek, managing director since 1995; he has replanted the vineyards and totally changed the fortunes of the estate. Since his arrival, each succeeding vintage has shown distinct improvement. La Sirene is the second wine of Château Giscours, made from the fruits of the estate's younger vines, those from 5-15 years of age; like its big brother it offers a charming youthfulness and all the generosity of the terroir.
