License IV is the permit in France allowing cafes, brasseries and restaurants to serve alcohol. The official enameled placards can be found bolted to the walls of these establishments throughout France. And so, when Gregory Castells, president of U. S. wine importer Martine’s Wines, decided to produce his own line of French wines, he recalled his parents’ bar in the south of France and chose “License IV” for the name of the brand. His white, offered in a 200 ml can, is a Muscadet, 100% Melon de Bourgogne, produced by Domaine du Grand Mouton (Louis Metaireau); it is bright, clean, and a touch flinty, the perfect hot-weather refresher.
