Founded in 1776, Champagne Louis Roederer stands today as one of the last great independent and family-run Champagne houses. It is today managed by Frederic Rouzaud, who represents the seventh generation in the family line of succession. The “Collection” Series, the concept of cellar master Jean-Baptiste Lecaillon, represents his acknowledgement of increasingly warmer vintages in Champagne and the resulting need for a shift in the composition of the standard house blend in order to continue to promote freshness over ripeness. The series started with #242, the number of different blends since the house was founded, and each “Collection” blend has its own identity, which will gradually reveal itself over time. This is, therefore, the third offering in the series. With the 2019 vintage as its base, the wine is a 41/33/26 blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier (and this marks the return of Meunier to the blend); rich and robust, yet soft on the palate, it is widely considered to be the finest release of the house's reimagined non-vintage Brut to date.
