Luna Austral, the biodynamic winery in Argentina’s Uco Valley, has deservedly been called a force of nature. Follow the Tunuyán river through the Andes, down the Uco Valley to the little town of La Consulta, and you’ll find a pioneer in biodynamic viticulture making its mark. Luna Austral is the only Argentinian winery to be fully Demeter-certified, a path the winery has taken since its inception in 2008, under the guidance of agronomist Mario Toso and winemaker Alvaro Espinoza, who have been working closely together for more than a decade. Their current wines include only a single varietal Malbec and this blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Malbec called “Sintonia.” Grapes for Sintonia are grown in high-altitude vineyards in the prestigious district of La Consulta. The wine exhibits a harmonious blend of red and black fruits with overtones of spices and prune; it is concentrated, dense but silky, and in perfect balance.
