Marchand-Tawse represents the collaboration of two Canadians, Pascal Marchand, a “transplant’ from Quebec now considered one of the most knowledgeable vignerons in Burgundy, and financier Moray Tawse, who acquired Domaine Maume in 2012. Marchand-Tawse is both a negociant house making wines from acquired grapes and a domaine that owns vineyards and produces wines from these terroirs. In the beginning the domaine part of the estate was relatively small, but after Moray Tawse bought the Maume estate in Gevrey-Chambertin the domaine part increased significantly. This wine is from a premier cru vineyard at the northern end of the village known for producing Pinot that makes for elegant yet full-bodied wines with lots of black fruits and spice . . . exactly what we have here.
