The Maturana family home—over a hundred years old built with traditional techniques and Chilean clay tile—was completely destroyed in the 2010 earthquake. It was then, when they had to start from scratch, the family decided to build a winery in the heart of the Colchagua Valley and Maturana Wines was born. José Ignacio Maturana, an agronomist and winemaker for some of the major wineries of Chile, decided to quit his job to dedicate himself to this family project. Farming practices are sustainable, and the winemaking philosophy is to showcase terroir in every bottle. As the "Naranjo" name would indicate, this is an orange wine made entirely from a grape native to the Maule Valley, the Torontel, from vines planted in 1940. The grapes were left to ferment with native yeast and remained in contact with the skins for eight months in stainless steel; the result is a tangy, aromatic orange wine, refined and lean, with a fresh palate wwith concetrated and complex flavors.
