Mauritson ancestors first planted grapes in Dry Creek Valley in the 1880s, but they shipped what they produced back home to Sweden. Over the years the family became a major grower, with a total of more than four thousand acres of ranchland and vineyards; three-quarters of that land, however, is now under Lake Sonoma. The sixth generation of the Mauritson family is now represented by owner/winemaker Clay Mauritson who made his first vintage in 1998. The winery’s reputation has largely been made on its compelling Zinfandels, and this bottling will show you why: Blended with 15% Petite Sirah, this is an eminently accessible Zin with aromas and flavors of berries and dried herbs, fruit-forward, with lingering savory and mineral notes.
