This iconic Champagne house was founded by wine trader Charles Moet in Epernay in 1743; it was remaned Moet et Chandon in 1833 after Pierre-Gabriele Chandon de Briailles joined the company as a partner of Jean-Remy Moët, Claude Moët's grandson. Today, as co-owner of LVMH, the company owns some 2900 acres of vineyards and annually produces approximately 28,000,000 bottles of champagne. Since 1874 Moet has released 74 vintage Champagnes, each one of them unique, in that each is made from the grapes of a single exceptional year. From a vintage widely known for its Chardonnays, this 2013 comprises almost equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with a small amount of Pinot Meunier; cellar-aged for seven years, it has an autumnal bouquet of honey and nuts and is livelt and well-defined on the palate, with delicate acidity and a finely polished structure.
