Although the Scammacca del Murgo family had been producing wine for decades on their estate on the eastern slopes of Mt. Etna, it was only in 1981 the Baron Scammacca del Murgo, a diplomat who had served as ambassador to Belgium, Russia, and the Holy See, decided to start bottling his wine commercially. Eventually all eight of his sons came on board, each playing a role wither in the fields or in the winery, with the singular goal of ensuring that their father’s pioneering work in redefining the face of Etna wine continues. Their rosato is 100% Nerello Mascalese; it shows ripe strawberry and melon, with hints of savory spice, and is silky on the palate with vibrant acidity and a long floral finish.
