The Opstal Wine Estate is located in the Slanghoek (Snakes Corner) Valley of South Africa, part of the Breedeloof wine region; it is a large family farm that dates back to 1847, and winemaker Attie Louw and his brother Zak represent the seventh generation of family ownership. The farm comprises more than 400 acres, most of which is under vineyards, along with some peaches, persimmons and apples. Breedeloof is a cooler-climate region that produces fruit-forward wines, thanks to the slower ripening of the grapes. Opstal makes a variety of wines and styles in different ranges, and Sixpence is their easy-drinking lifestyle range of wines. This Sauv/Sem blend, done entirely in stainless steel, offers lots of ripe tropical fruit with a vibrant acidity and a well-rounded finish.
