Azienda Agricola is a small family winery located in the Valdiba subregion of Piedmont’s Dogliani hills. Barberis had for many years been selling his grapes to neighboring cellars, but in 1999 he decided to start bottling his own wines. In that same year his vineyards were certified organic, and he bottles his wines unfiltered and with minimal added sulfites. Barberis farms some 18 acres of vines, more than half of which are planted to Dolcetto, but he is especially proud of his Nascetta, a rare varietal in the region long used as a blending grape but that is increasingly being made as a single varietal. Barberis’s version has aromas and flavors of white flowers, tropical citrus, and freshly cut grass, with an underlying note of stony minerality.
