Founded originally in 1411 by Duke Garcia Caamańo and rebuilt 300 years later by Duke Jacopo Ozores, Rubianes is at once an historic palace, an equally historic garden featuring more than 4,00o specimens of camellias, and, with an area of nearly 65 acres, the largest Albarińo vineyard in the Salnes region of Rias Baixas. The storied vineyards were restored and replanted by Don Gonzales Ozores of Urcola, the eighteenth Lord of the House of Rubianes, and his wife, Paloma Rey Fernandez Latorre, who brought the project to its conclusion after her husband’s death in 2006. The first wines were bottled in 2009. This is a crisp and elegant version of the grape, with added weight from three months on the lees; with citrus, peaches and melon on the nose, it is full and complex on the palate, with great energy and intensity.
