In 1902 Chateau Leoville Las Cases, the second-growth chateau in St. Julien, created one of the first official “second” wines in Bordeaux, naming it Clos du Marquis. Because the fruit comes from different vines and terriors that what is used to produce Las Cases, and because it comes from the same parcels in every vintage, the owners of Las Cases, the Delon family, has always thought of Clos du Marquis as its own unique St. Julien wine. And so, beginning with the 2015 vintage, Clos du Marquis acquired its own “second” wine, La Petite Marquise. A 52/48 blend of Cabernet and Merlot, this is a medium-bodied, crisp, classic expression of Bordeaux, with sweet ripe bright fruits in the finish.
