This winery dates from 1929, when the first Pierre Amadieu decided to bottle his wine and sell it under hisown name. He is also one of the first producers in the region to put the name of the appellation on his labels. He started with about 18 acres, which had been in the family for several generations, then expanded in the 1950s with the acquisition of the Romaneand La Marchotte vineyards, making this the largest wiinegrowing operation in Gigondas. Today the third and fourth generation is at the helm, with winemaker Pierre, his uncle Claude in the vineyards, and cousins Henri-Claude, Jean-Marie, and Marie making up the team. A blend of Grenache and Syrah, this Gigondas is sourced from deeply rooted vines on the hillsides of the estate, with each parcel carefully selected to express this exceptional terroir and produce elegant wines with great length and freshness. The wine is generous on the palate, with soft yet powerful tannins and a long and spicy finish seasoned with black pepper.
