Back in the mif-1990s Pasquale Forte, then a successful engineer, had occasion to visit the Castiglione d’Orcia region of Tuscany and fell madly in love with it. In 1997 he returned permanently, acquiring sizable acreage in the Sienese hills (including 68 acres of vineyards), turning it all into a highly successful agricultural enterprise raising cows, sheep, pigs, chicken as well as growing wheat and making wine. Everything here, grape-growing and winemaking included, is done following biodynamic principles and practices. This Villagio, the winery’s entrylevel offering, is made primarily from the estate’s younger vines; 100% Sangiovese, it is fresh and clean, grippy but quite elegant, with pleasant tannins and a savory mineral finish.
