Try searching the Marlborough region of New Zealand for a winery named “Rata Estate” and you won’t find it, for the simple reason that there is no such place. “Rata Estate” is effectively a second label for Hunter’s Wines, the oldest independent winery and a true pioneer in the Marlborough region. Made by James Macdonald, who makes the wines at Hunter’s and is the nephew of co-founder Jane Hunter, this is a fresh and zesty Sauvignon Blanc with aromas of pineapple and lime peel. And it clocks in at a modest 8.5% alcohol!
