Caroline Meurée and her husband, Hervé Maligne started their project in 2019, when they took over this sprawling estate in the Loire, an estate covering nearly 45 acres spread over five villages with 33 different plots, with an average vine age of 40 years. The vineyards are planted almost entirely to Cabernet Franc, with a small amount of Chenin Blanc, and the name “Sables Verts” or “green sand”, comes from unique greenish sand that is a component in many of the best vineyards of Saumur-Champigny. This red is a blend of grapes from four of their vineyards; fermented in stainless steel with natural yeasts, it is fresh and easy to drink, with bright and tangy raspberry and black currant on the palate.
