Luciano Saetti founded Vigneto Saetti just outside of Modena in 1998, taking over the roughly eight acres of vines his parents had planted in 1964. Saetti saw the value in the family’s old vines of a particular local strain of the Lambrusco grape called Salamino di Santa Croce and was convinced that a return to traditional methods of vinification could take their wines to a much higher level. Perhaps most importantly, his wines undergo their secondary fermentatiion in the bottle, a practice that has become increasingly rare in the region because many producers were seduced by the charmat method which allowed for easier production of sparkling wine. This is, as one critic has said, not your mother's Lambrusco! Bone-dry, savory and earthy, with aromas of red berries and violets, more frothy than sparkling, it has a velvety texture that is cut by bright acidity.
