Smith & Hook began as a subsidiary of Hahn Family Wines, the label devoted exclusively to the production of Cabernet. In 2023 Hahn, including Smith & Hook, was acquired by E. & J. Gallo, and their offerings have since expanded to include wines other than Cabernet. Their Proprietary Red Blend is a classic Bordeaux-styled red with a few interesting switches, a blend of Merlot, Cabernet, Malbec, and Petite Sirah, with the grapes sourced from three prestigious appellations of the Central Coast: Arroyo Seco, San Antonio Valley, and Paso Robles. With intense aromas of red and black berries, plums and dark cherries, it is smooth and rich on the palate, with flavors of dark fruit and warm spices on a lingering finish.
