Over the course of the early 1960s, “Don Rocco” Perrucci transformed his family’s property in Carignano, in the Abruzzzo, into a business, consolidating the land, diversifying the vineyards, and building the historic central body of the current winery, but continued to sell the wine in bulk. In 2018 his daughters Carla and Anna took the reins and have since completely renovated the winery and restructured operations, in the process establishing Tre Gemme as a brand to be taken seriously. Today Tenuta Tre Gemme is one of the largest privately held wineries in Abruzzo, with 175 acres under vine, primarily native varietals but some international ones as well. This Montepulciano sets a new course for red wine in the region: it is vinified in stainless steel, to preserve the full strength ad character of the grape, and aged briefly, first in concrete tanks and then in bottle. This is a bold red, full-bodied, with aromas and flavors of cherries and wild berries and moew than a hint of chocolate.
