There are few Montalcino wineries with as long or as noble a history as Tenuta di Collosorbo, and the Ciacci family has been involved in winemaking here since the late 1800s. The family expanded their holdings over the years until 1995, when the estate was split among different members of the family and so Collosorbo, as it is now constituted, dates from 1995. At the helm of the estate today is a power trio of three passionate and knowledgeable women: owner Giovanna Ciacci and her daughters, winemaker-oenologist Laura Sutera Sardo, and agronomist and marketing manager Lucia Sutera Sardo. This is a classically poised, precise Sangiovese from the region’s most expressive terroirs; it has an intense floral nose and is dense but juicy, with plenty of extract framing the red fruit and candied violet flavors. A wine of impeccable balance, it has a long finish that is given added punch by strong underlying minerality.
