Terra de Falanis is the project of Angel Cerda, owner/winemaker of the Anima Negra winery on the island of Mallorca; with his partner Pere Obrador, he founded that winery in 1994. Subsequently, and with the involvement of like-minded colleagues, the pair established Terra de Falanis, a project devoted to the revival of indigenous grape varieties, eventually extending their reach to mainland Spain, with winemaking operations in the regions of Montsant, Penedes, and Calatayud. Llenca Plana is their effort in Montsant, named for the vineyard in which the grapes are grown, the name originating from the flat stone that characterizes the land where the vines grow surrounded by olive and cherry trees. The vineyard is in one of the highest locations in Montsant and benefits from the protection of two mountain ranges that temper the Mediterranean climate with freshness. The wine is a 70/30 blend of Carignane and Grenache, a rich and complex red with intense red and black fruit flavors balanced with smooth tannins and fresh acidity.
