Teutonic Wine Company was founded in 2005 by Barnaby and Olga Tuttle. They started the winery as truly a bootstrap operation: neither had any experience with formal grapegrowing and winemaking, or any financial backing, learning as they went. Today they still farm their original small vineyard about 20 miles from the Oregon coast, but also source grapes from throughout the Wiillamette Valley, working with grapes from some of the highest-elevation vineyards in the state, a mix of Riesling, Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewürztraminer, Viognier, Pinot Meunier, and Tannat. This is their Pinot Gris from a single vineyard in the valley that was first planted in 1979. Fermented in neutral oak barrels and aged briefly in neutral oak as well, it is a crisp white with just a hint of residual sugar, tropical fruit flavors, and great minerality.
