Having enjoyed a highly successful career in investment management in Brazil, Marcelo Araujo uprooted his family, moved them to Portugal, and in 2017 founded his winery project in the Dao region of Portugal. He pieced together seven different plots, most already planted to vines at the base of the Serra da Estrela mountain range and renovated an old textile factory to serve as their winery facility. And he hired Luis Seabra, longtime winemaker at Nieport, as his consulting winemaker . . . clearly a man with a plan! The winery currently produces three whites three reds, and a rose, this “Textura da Estrela” being one of the reds; it is a field blend of Touriga Nacional, Jaen, and Alfrochiero, all from vines in a single vineyard that are between 25 and 60 years old. Fermented in stainless steel and aged in a mix of large vats and neutral French oak, this is a smooth, easy-drinking red with a velvety texture, bursting with red fruits, earth, and mineral notes.
