The De Martino family has been producing wines in Chile since 1934, but what we have here is a bit of a boutique project from brothers Marco and Sebastian De Martino, the fourth generation of the family who are now in charge. They are privileged to work with old ungrafted vines in their vineyards in two areas, Isla de Maipo in the Maipo Valley and Guarilhue in the Itata Valley. The brothers’ passion for these two areas and for their ungrafted vines led to the decision to create a new boutique wine brand, separate from the larger De Martino empire, focused solely on these special areas and vines. This Cinsault is sourced from bush-pruned vines in Itata; aged six months in neutral French oak, it has aromas of pomegranate and damp earth and is taut and juicy on the palate, with finely-grained tannins and a fruit-filled finish.
