Founded in 1670, Warre’s was the first British Port company established in Portugal; it has been in the Symington family since 1905 when Andrew James Symington was admitted to partnership. Warre’s Ports are distinguished for their structure, power and softly perfumed nose. They have a particularly fresh and elegant style. Warre’s premium wines are sourced from Quinta da Cavadinha and Quinta do Retiro, two of the finest estates of the Douro valley. Warre’s is alone in maintaining a small production of bottle matured Late Bottled Vintage Port (apart from its sister company Smith Woodhouse). Colheitas, vintage-dated tawny Ports aged in wood for a minimum of seven years, are quite rare in the marketplace. This 1995 version from Warres, a limited release, is poised between its fruit and a rich, nutty character from the wood aging. It has a fully ripe texture, with a sweet toffee flavor.
