ZD Wines, located in Rutherford on the Silverado Trail, is owned and operated by three generations of the deLeuze family. Founded in 1969, ZD's mantra of "(Z)ero (D)efects" is based on founder Norman deLeuze’s career in the aerospace industry, which set the tone for the winery’s focus on quality, consistency and style. The ZD style is to craft rich, flavorful wines that reflect the varietal character of the grape. ZD also has a strong internal emphasis on ecology: their estate vineyards have been certified organic for over a decade and the entire winery is powered by solar power, reflecting a commitment to the health of the surrounding environment. This Chardonnay highlights the winery’s commitment to artfully blending for richness, intensity and balance from long-term vineyard partners in Carneros, Monterey, and Santa Barbara counties. Aged ten months in new American oak, it has aromas of guava, pineapple, and lemon zest. The palate is round, full bodied and boasts a core of bright tropical fruit that is balanced beautifully by natural acidity.
