The Domaine des Carteresses is in the heart of the Tavel vineyards, about nine miles from Avignon and Chateauneuf-du-Pape; the estate has been run by the Barrelet family for three generations, and their wines are produced by the Cave de Tavel, the co-op that makes half of all the wines from Tavel as well as wines from other parts of the southern Rhone. Their Cotes du Rhone is a 60/20/20 blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan and Mourvedre; done in stainless steel, this is a straightforward Cotes du Rhone, full and round, with a good balance of fruit and tannins and a long finish.
