n 1995, Clay Shannon discovered a magnificent piece of property in the hills overlooking Clear Lake in Lake County, thirty-five miles north of Napa’s famed vineyards. He quickly set out to develop vineyards and started the Shannon Ridge the following year. In 2002 Clay and his wife Margarita bought High Valley Vineyard, a 60-acre property located in the High Valley appellation in eastern Lake County, where the land is between 1,600 and 3,000 feet in elevation. This bottling is 75% estate-grown Cabernet Sauvignon, enriched with the addition of healthy doses of Cab Franc and Petrit Verdot, along with splashes of Zinfandel, Alicante Bouschet, and Syrah; it is highly aromatic, with full-bodied flavors and a textured finish enhanced by notes of cherries, herbs, and toasted oak.
