Located in the northern reaches of Lebanon’s high-altitude Bekaa Valley, the Mersel Winery, was founded in 2000 by Lebanese-Australian winemaker Eddie Chami; named for one of three sub-regions of the valley, the winery focuses largely on grape varieties that are indigenous to the country. The aim here is to keep everything simple: the wines are made naturally, with little ot no sulfites, and are bottled unfined and unfiltered. “Red Velvet” is a new addition to their liineup, a light whole-cluster red, made with 100% Cinsault; fruity, with ripe strawberry and cherry flavors, it also shows a hint of smokiness and spicy flavors along the way,with gentle tannins and acidity.
