Citadelle is produced by Maison Ferrand Distillery at Chateau Bonbonnet in Cognac, in the southwest of France. It was created in 1996 by Alexandre Gabriel in 1996, which makes it a true pioneer in the nascent story of craft gin production. As with all gins, juniper is a critical ingredient, and Citadelle sources much of theirs from their own juniper fields, which are found right across the road from the distillery. The 18 other botanicals used here include fennel, savory, iris root, angelica, and star anise, and their patented “progressive infusion” process ensures that the gin a=reaches perfect balance. This is a classic, well balanced gin with bright citrusy aromas, silky on the palate, with a sweet lingering finish.
