The company was founded in 1695 by Petrus DeKuyper as a manufacturer of barrels and casks, but by 1752 they owned a distillery for producing Dutch gin. In the early years of the 20th century, following the construction of a new distillery, they began production of liqueurs, slowly expanding their roster of flavors and developing partnerships with distillers in Canada and the United States. Their Blue Curacao is a harmonious blend of distilled extracts of oranges, lemons, and the bitter tropical fruit called the Curacao or Lahara fruit. Balanced for sweetness, it is a solid basis for many classic cocktails.
